Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend, January 19-20
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Girls Sleepover – January 19 – The afternoon and night before the MLK March and Reception, YWCA MDI invites girls for a sleep-over party that includes arts activities about social justice and participation in the MLK March and Reception the next day.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. March and Reception, January 20 – Each year YWCA Mount Desert Island hosts the annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday March through the town of Bar Harbor to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy of peace and social justice. Participants of all ages are encouraged to bring banners and signs. The march concludes at the YWCA with a reception and light refreshments, closing remarks, and resources for community education and dialogue about Dr. King’s work. Participation in this event is open to the public with a special invitation to the young people of Hancock County and Mount Desert Island.
Valentine Tea for Kids – Saturday, February 8th
The YWCA MDI will be holding its Annual Valentine Tea Party on Saturday, February 8th with a snow date of Sunday, February 9th. There will be two seatings at 1:00pm to 2:15pm and 2:30pm to 3:45pm.
Music will be provided by Annie Menzietti who encourages the kids to sing and dance with her. Everyone is welcome to attend this event although it is mainly aimed at younger kids. We do encourage people to dress up as we do use real china and serve with our silver tea service.
Tickets are $5 (paid the day of the event) and reservations are required. Reserve your seat by contacting Abby at 288-5008 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
March on Mount Desert Street Progressive Dinner, March 5, 4:30 pm – Every March the nonprofit organizations on Mount Desert Street team up to host a 5-course walking dinner for the community. YWCA MDI will provide the soup and bread course this year.
Roses for International Women’s Day, March 6, 10 am – 2 pm – YWCA MDI sells roses for $5 each which are then hand-delivered around MDI and Trenton to celebrate International Women’s Day.
Spring Fling Easter Egg Hunt, April 11, 10 am – noon – A popular children’s event featuring an Easter egg hunt, arts & crafts, and more.
Dollars for Scholars Rummage Sale, – postponed until a later date. A giant rummage sale to raise funds for the Y’s scholarship programs.
Virtual Annual Meeting , June 20th. More details to follow. We hope you will attend!
July 4th Celebration, 8 am – 3 pm – YWCA MDI sells Luminaria bags for the August 8th event at the Bar Harbor/MDI Rotary Club’s 4th of July Celebration.
Carol Dyer Memorial Luminaria Evening on the Village Green, August 8th – The Luminaria Evening is a ceremony of hope and remembrance to honor cancer survivors and those who lost their battle with cancer.

Women of Distinction Awards Dinner, September 25th – An awards dinner hosted by YWCA MDI for women elected by the community as Woman of the Year, Young Woman of the Year, and Girl of the Year.

Children’s Christmas Bazaar December 12th – One of the biggest events hosted at the YWCA is the annual Children’s Christmas Bazaar when youngsters are invited to shop for affordable gifts for their family members.
MDI Coffee House
Every other Tuesday from 9:30 am – 11:30 am.
Come join us for coffee and conversation running through May. The first hour allows participants an opportunity to meet and mingle with neighbors followed by an hour presentation. All are welcome! Watch for additional information on specific presentation topics.
