Carol Dyer Memorial Luminaria Evening
August 2027Each August, MDI neighbors and visitors gather on Bar Harbor’s Village Green to remember, to honor, and to hold space for everyone whose life has been touched by cancer. 2026 marked the 25th Annual Carol Dyer Memorial Luminaria Evening, a tradition that began in memory of Carol Dyer, a beloved mother, friend, and Jesup Memorial Library children’s librarian who died of brain cancer in 2001.
Hundreds of luminaria bags line the green, each bearing the name of someone loved, someone lost, or someone still fighting. Names are read aloud. Music fills the evening as we come together for this annual event.
YWCA MDI partners with MDI Health to host this community gathering and proceeds from this event benefit the MDI Breast Center and Oncology Department.
Community Harvest Meal
Monday, November 23, 2026Join YWCA for a free Community Harvest Meal to honor the season of gratitude and giving. As an antiracist organization, we continue our journey of unlearning and we want to recognize the harm that the traditional use of “Thanksgiving” brings to indigenous communities that experience this holiday as a day of mourning.
We respect the diverse experiences within our community and welcome all to reframe this holiday to honor, respect and gather as a community of care and kindness.
This event is limited to 50 meals and is available for dine in or carry out. By reservation only!
Contact Abby at 288-5008 or abby@ywcamdi.org to make your reservation!
